Lead-Based Paint Courses

TES offers all the courses needed by professionals working in the lead abatement industry. You'll appreciate our live instructors who engage you with stimulating, interactive dialog. For Workers

  • Lead Worker Initial

    This course is designed for non-supervisory personnel seeking a EPA/HUD/OSHA-based training class qualifying them to obtain a state-issued license for the abatement of lead-based paint.

    The course includes lectures, demonstrations, hands-on training, individual respirator fit testing, course review and a written examination. Topics covered include:

    • What is lead?
    • Potential health effects of exposure to lead
    • Identifying lead-based paint hazards
    • Worker and community rights
    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Controlling lead based paint hazards
    • Worksite setup
    • Abatement methods
    • Lead abatement in the home
    • Cleanup, disposal and clearance
    • Industrial removal of lead-based paint
    • Other health and safety problems incidental to lead-based paint abatement
    • Laws, regulation, and standards

    Course length
    • 2 days
    • Classes run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day with a one-hour lunch break

    Languages offered
    • English
    • Spanish

    Prerequisites
    • None

    Requirements
    • Each student must bring to class his or her social security card and a government-issued photo ID.
    • You must be able to read and understand the language in which the course is taught. No interpreters will be allowed in class.
    • Your photograph will be taken for use on certification documents.

    Certification
    • Students completing the coursework and passing the exam will be issued: 1) an EPA-approved course certificate with unique identification number, and 2) a plastic course certification card.   Both will have your picture on them. These are valid for 12 months from the course completion date.
    • This course permits licensure in any of the 50 United States.

    • Standard registration: $325.00

  • Lead Safety for Remodeling, Repair and Painting

    This Lead Safe Work Practices training course, referred to by some as "The RRP Course," is based on EPA's and HUD's previous model courses in lead-safe work practices. The audience for this course includes renovators, remodelers, painters, and maintenance personnel. This course helps enhance their credentials as private contractors, and satisfies HUD requirements for interim controls training in federally assisted housing. Topics covered include:
