TES offers all the courses needed for professionals working in the asbestos abatement industry. You'll appreciate our live instructors who engage you with stimulating, interactive dialog. Many of our courses also feature hands-on training in our state-of-the-art simulation environment, giving you a chance to practice what you've learned until you're confident in your new abilities.

  • Asbestos Worker Initial

    This course is designed for those seeking EPA certification in handling friable asbestos-containing materials found in schools or public and commercial buildings.

    The course includes lectures, demonstrations, hands-on training, individual respirator fit testing, course review and a written examination. Topics covered include:

    • Physical characteristics of asbestos
    • Potential health effects related to asbestos exposure
    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • State-of-the-art work practices
    • Personal hygiene
    • Additional safety hazards such as electrical hazards, heat stress, and hazards related to falls and confined space entry
    • Medical monitoring
    • Air monitoring
    • Relevant Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements, procedures and standards
    • Respiratory protection and medical monitoring programs

    Course length
    • 4 days
    • Classes run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day with a one-hour lunch break

    Languages offered
    • English
    • Spanish

    Prerequisites
    • None

    Requirements
    • Each student must bring to class his or her social security card and a government-issued photo ID.
    • You must be able to read and understand the language in which the course is taught. No interpreters will be allowed in class.
    • Your photograph will be taken for use on certification documents.

    Certification
    • Students completing the coursework and passing the exam will be issued: 1) an EPA-approved course certificate with unique identification number, and 2) a plastic course certification card.  Both will have your picture on them. These are valid for 12 months from the course completion date.
    • This course is EPA-approved and permits licensure in any of the United States except New York and Indiana (these two states only recognize training conducted within their state boundaries).

    • Students completing the coursework and passing the exam will be issued: 1) an EPA-approved course certificate with unique identification number, and 2) a plastic course certification card. Both will have your picture on them. These are valid for 12 months from the course completion date.
    • This course is EPA-approved and permits licensure in any of the United States except Florida, New York and Indiana (the latter two states only recognize training conducted within their state boundaries).
